Therma-Tru Construction in San Bernardino, CA | Hampton Contractors

We’re an independent San Bernardino General Contractor that installs and services Therma-Tru door systems across the area, and the work here is shaped by one thing most generic Therma-Tru pages never mention: the Cajon Pass. Santa Ana winds funnel straight down through that pass into the city, slam doors, rack frames, and expose every weak hinge and sill. That’s the problem we solve most often. If your Therma-Tru door is dragging, leaking, or won’t latch after a wind event, call Hampton Contractors at (833) 467-4075 for a free estimate.

We’re not authorized by Therma-Tru and we don’t sell their warranties. We know the product cold because we’ve worked on it across San Bernardino’s foothill and mid-century neighborhoods for years, including Therma-Tru in Highland.

Why San Bernardino Residents Choose Us for Therma-Tru Service

Brent Calloway, our owner, has been working construction in the High Desert since he was eighteen. He grew up just off Ranchero Road in Hesperia, and what he learned at Victor Valley College’s construction technology program still drives how we approach every job. We don’t guess at what’s wrong. We diagnose it, explain it in plain language, and fix it with the right parts.

That matters with Therma-Tru doors because the product is specific. Fiber-Classic and Smooth-Star slabs use fiberglass skins over engineered cores. Classic-Craft doors have deeper grain profiles and heavier construction. When wind pushes a prehung frame out of square, the fix isn’t generic. It’s knowing which hinge screws to replace, how to reset the jamb, and whether the sill can be saved or needs to go.

We’ve been doing that work in San Bernardino long enough to know the housing stock here, and we also offer Therma-Tru service in Muscoy. Much of it is post-WWII through 1970s tract construction: small single-story stucco homes with wood-frame entry assemblies. The original jambs are often mid-century lumber that’s been swelling and shrinking for fifty or sixty years. When you hang a modern Therma-Tru prehung unit on that kind of frame, everything has to be shimmed, squared, and sealed correctly or the door fails in the first strong wind. We get that right because we’ve seen what happens when someone doesn’t.

Common Therma-Tru Construction Problems We Solve in San Bernardino

  • Door slabs racked out of square after Santa Ana events. When a strong wind slams a door against an aging jamb, the whole prehung unit can shift. The door starts dragging on the sill, the latch misses the strike plate, and the reveal gets uneven. We reset the frame, re-shim the jamb, and re-hang the slab so it closes clean again.
  • Cracked or crazed fiberglass skins on Fiber-Classic and Smooth-Star doors. Hot inland summers and direct foothill sun take a toll on fiberglass skins at the stile and corner joints. Over years, the gel coat can craze and crack, especially on west-facing entries in San Bernardino’s older ZIP codes. If the skin is damaged beyond repair, we’ll tell you straight. Otherwise, we address what’s fixable.
  • Leaking thresholds and rotted subfloor at the entry. Wind-driven rain through the Cajon Pass pushes water under worn sweeps and into degraded Therma-Tru sills. We replace the sill, install fresh weatherstrip, and check the subfloor for rot before it spreads. On older west-side tract homes, this is one of the most common calls we get after a heavy storm.
  • Seasonally sticking doors on original mid-century jambs. Older San Bernardino homes were built with wood jambs that swell in winter humidity and shrink in summer heat. If your Therma-Tru door binds every time the weather changes, the hinges are probably pulling loose or the jamb has moved. We address the frame, not just the door.
  • Hinge screws stripped from original lumber. After enough wind cycles, the original screw holes in an old jamb can’t hold a hinge. The door sags in its frame. We replace the stripped hardware with genuine Therma-Tru hinges and reinforce the screw holes so the door hangs true.

Therma-Tru Service in San Bernardino: What Local Conditions Mean for Your Equipment

The Cajon Pass is the local failure mode every roofer and framer in San Bernardino knows. After a strong Santa Ana event, re-roofs and fascia repairs spike across the foothill and north-end neighborhoods, and entry-door calls spike right along with them. Homes built to older wind standards take the brunt, especially along wind-exposed streets near the base of the San Bernardino Mountains. Doors that were fine last month suddenly drag, leak, or won’t latch because the frame moved just enough to break the seal.

This matters for Therma-Tru owners because a prehung fiberglass door is only as good as the opening it sits in. The slab itself is tough. The failure happens at the edges: the jamb, the hinges, the threshold, the weatherstrip. In San Bernardino, that’s where wind-driven rain finds its way in. We’ve seen homes on the north end where a Fiber-Classic door slammed hard enough during a blow that the hinge screws pulled right out of the original mid-century jamb, and we provide Therma-Tru repair in Loma Linda too. The door was fine. The frame wasn’t. We reset the frame, replaced the stripped hinges, re-hung the slab, and swapped the weatherstrip so it sealed against the next storm.

That’s the distinction a generic Therma-Tru page won’t give you. It’ll talk about product features. It won’t tell you that in San Bernardino, the wind through the pass is what you’re really engineering against.

Therma-Tru Models & Products We Service in San Bernardino

We work on the full Therma-Tru residential line: Fiber-Classic fiberglass entry doors, Smooth-Star fiberglass doors, and Classic-Craft door systems. We service door slabs on prehung frames with Therma-Tru hinges and sills, and we replace components as needed rather than trying to sell you a whole new door when a seal or a hinge is the actual problem.

We use genuine Therma-Tru replacement parts: sills, weatherstrip, hinges, and prehung frames. The profile and fit matter, especially on wind-rated assemblies. When a factory part is back-ordered and you need the door sealed now, we’ll match a quality aftermarket sweep or weatherstrip and tell you exactly what we’re doing and why. Therma-Tru Service Pricing in San Bernardino

What you’ll pay depends on what failed. A simple hinge repair is a fraction of a full prehung replacement. Here are the ranges we work from on entry-related and adjacent exterior work:

Service Typical Range
Roof Repair $400 – $1800
Roof Replacement $8000 – $20000
Window Replacement $4500 – $15000

Entry door repairs like hinge replacement, sill swaps, and weatherstrip replacement typically fall at the lower end of the repair range, but the exact number depends on what we find when we open the frame up. A free estimate includes a full inspection of the slab, the jamb, the hinges, the sill, and the weatherstrip, plus a written line-item quote. Call (833) 467-4075 to schedule one.
